Nigeria relishing on the gains of amnesty

Nigeria is already counting the positive results from the recently concluded amnesty exercise.

1. With the cessation of hostilities in the Niger Delta region, Nigeria can once again fill its OPEC quota and be trusted by major consumer nations to meet its contractual obligations.

2. Contractors handling projects in the region are now fast-tracking the repair of oil and gas infrastructures damaged by violence.

3. Today, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia can be relied upon when necessary for the supply of crude to stabilize global prices.

4. The amnesty offers great advantage for Nigeria to exercise more influence in the supply and pricing of oil.

5. It supports the Federal Government's Re-branding campaign of making "Nigeria: Good people, Great Nation."

Forms had already been distributed to the ex-militants at their camps to determine the career path they wish to take, whether to further their education or to go into business.

While the governors of the Niger Delta region are working closely with the ex-militants in their rehabilitation programme and the post amnesty process which the Nigerian President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua said would require great patience, perseverance and hard work.

The Economic Adviser to the President, Dr Tanimu Yakubu was true when he said that the success of the programme would accelerate economic development across the nation.
